Christopher Purcell: I am a physicist and Mathematica addict living in Nova Scotia. In my day job I use Mathematica to build finite element models of acoustic transducers - most recently, for sonar. My current hobby project is rebuilding old violins including making fingerboards with a home made 3 axis CNC mill. The mill is controlled by EMC2 running on Ubuntu. I use Mathematica to write G-Code for EMC2. I am now trying to build a parametric solid model of a violin, so I can mill the top and bottom plates. A longer term spin-off from this might be a finite element model of the violin, with strings and acoustic radiation.
